Friends of Gastrells

Dear Parents

On behalf of all the volunteers in the ‘Friends of Gastrells’ Parents Teachers Association, we’d like to wish you a very warm welcome to the Gastrells School community.

Friends of Gastrells is the name for the Parents Teachers Association at Gastrells School. The group is run by parent volunteers, with two core roles: to help build the school community and to raise money for the school to be able to provide resources, experiences or facilities for the children.

The committee

After many years of fantastic work the previous FOG committee stood down in March 2023.This means that the current committee is very new and just starting to plan activities for the coming year. The new committee, elected in May 2023, is made up of 8 parents who have volunteered to share the three core roles between them (chair, secretary and treasurer). Members of the group are busy learning the ropes so that in September 2023 when the new reception children join, FOG will be in full operation, with the aim of building on the fantastic work of the previous committee, who raised thousands of pounds to pay for a nurture garden, phonics books and equipment for the school.

How you can get involved?

If you are interested in supporting Friends of Gastrells to fundraise or organise events that help bring the school community together we’d be keen to hear from you. As the committee is so new, now is a great time to get involved – either by joining the committee, the wider FOG group, or simply by supporting the events and fundraising initiatives planned throughout the year.

How we raise money?

Over the years FOG has raised thousands of pounds for the school through cake sales; quiz, music or comedy nights; school fayres; second-hand uniform sales; egg decorating competitions; non-uniform days; and much more.

How do we keep in touch?

Firstly, each class has a class representative who can share information about events and activities with the other parents in each class.

Secondly, we operate a WhatsApp chat for each class – where you can keep in touch with the other parents in your child’s class and share information about what is happening around the school. If you want to join the WhatsApp chat for your child’s class please let the School Office know.
